Year 7 |
Students in Year 7 are given a broad curriculum across the three core sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) throughout their time in KS3. This curriculum has been designed to ensure students gain the understanding required for KS4 whilst also ensuring key learning moments through practical and hands on science lessons. |
Biology: B1 – Life and Cells B2 – Tissues and Organ Systems B3 – Reproduction and Variation |
Chemistry: C1 – Particle Model & Atoms, Compounds and Mixtures C2 – Separating Mixtures C3 – Reactions, Chemical and Physical |
Physics: P1 – Energy (Forms and Uses) P2 – Forces and Movement P3 – Space |
Year 8 |
Students continue with their curriculum from year 7 and further build upon the knowledge gained with new topics to further their curiosity in science. |
Biology: B4 – Respiration and Photosynthesis B5 – Health and Disease B6 – Interdependence and Evolution |
Chemistry: C4 – Atoms and the Periodic Table C5 – Acids and Bases C6 – Earth Chemistry |
Physics: P4 – Energy (Electricity and Uses) P5 – Forces (Movement and Pressure) P6 – Waves |
Year 9 |
Students in Year 9 will start consolidating their knowledge from KS3 and building up to the knowledge required for KS4. Students will build upon the knowledge gained in years 7 and 8 to start accessing GCSE level content. |
Biology: – Cell biology – Organisation – Infection and Response |
Chemistry: – Atomic structure and the periodic table – Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter |
Physics: – particle model of matter – Energy |
Year 10 |
In Year 10 students will continue with the GCSE studies they started in year 9 to ensure all paper 1 content is covered. The exam board students will be studying is AQA Trilogy to gain a combined Science award at the end of year 11. The specification they will be following is: https://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/science/gcse/combined-science-trilogy-8464/specification-at-a-glance |
Biology: – Infection and response – Organisation – Bioenergetics – Ecology |
Chemistry: – Quantitative chemistry – Chemical changes – Energy changes – The rate and extent of chemical change |
Physics: – Electricity – Atomic structure – Waves |
Year 11 |
In Year 11 students will continue with their GCSE studies. The exam board students will be studying is AQA Trilogy to gain a combined Science award which will give students 2 GCSEs in Science. The specification they will be following is: https://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/science/gcse/combined-science-trilogy-8464/specification-at-a-glance |
Biology: – Homeostasis and response – Inheritance, variation and evolution – Ecology |
Chemistry: – Organic chemistry – Chemical analysis – Chemistry of the Atmosphere – Using resources |
Physics: – Waves – Forces – Magnetism and electromagnetism |
