Year 7
Autumn | During this term students will learn about tone, scale and textures to create observational drawings of still life objects such as shoes and teddies. Students will learn how complete an artist research presentation and collaborate in small groups to create a display poster about various artists whose work is based on the theme of teddies. |
Spring Term | This term students will be introduced to artists whose work is based on the theme of ‘Natural Forms’. Students will complete observational studies in multiple media of local shells and sea life. Students will learn how to complete an artist research presentation and collaborate in small groups to create a display poster about various artist whose work is based on the theme of Natural Forms. |
Summer Term | During this term the students will be completing a project based on bugs where they will learn to apply watercolour carefully, looking at improving knowledge of blending, colour mixing, tints and shades. |
Year 8
Autumn | During this term students will create a final piece inspired by still life objects and the work of Michael Criag Martin. Students will create still life observational studies experimenting with his Pop Art style in multiple media. |
Spring | During this term students will continue to improve their understanding of tone, scale and textures in multiple media to create observational studies of different ethnic masks. Students will then continue to develop their artist research skills while collaborating in small groups to create a display poster researching various ethnic Art from different countries around the world. |
Summer | During this term, students will improve their understanding of tone, scale and textures in multiple media to create self-portraits looking at identity and citizenship linking to our PSHE curriculum. Students will develop their artist research skills and collaborate in small groups to create a display poster about various artist whose work is based on the theme of portraits. |
Year 9
Autumn Term | During this term students will study Contemporary typography & Pop Art whilst developing their skills in colour theory. Student will be experimenting more with watercolour and acrylic paint whilst learning to develop their work to create more personal final pieces. |
Spring Term | Students will continue with the contemporary typography and Pop Art project, moving onto creating studies linking to food and the first GCSE coursework project. |
Summer Term | Students will complete a project based on local architecture (old and new) linking to the architectural work of Hundertwasser. |
Year 10 Art:
Autumn Term | During this term students will develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Art and how to work and think as an artist. Learning aim and context: • Artist research and its influence and importance. • Introduction to 3D junk food sculpture with acrylic. Introduction to plasterwork and the use of textiles and mixed media. The use of surface texture in Art. • Observation drawing as a tool and a starting point. |
Spring Term | During the first half of this term, students will continue to experiment, develop and refine their Junk food project in 3D and 2D formats. The second half of this term students will look to refine and complete their Junk Food project ready to start their second coursework project in the summer term. continue to develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Art and how to work and think as an artist. . |
Summer Term | During this term, students will be expected to develop a unit of coursework in response to natural forms by: • Using observation drawing and photography as a tool and a starting point. • Artist research and its influence and its importance. • Experimenting with mixed media art forms, using a variety of everyday materials to create detailed studies of natural forms. Summer Term 2: Students will continue to develop their natural forms project looking to show a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Art and how to work and think as an artist. At this point of the course, students are expected to know how to collate, develop, modify and refine their work to a higher standard producing a portfolio of only their strongest work, which is 60% of their final grade. Students will be given Summer Holiday work to complete for the beginning of year 11 their mock exam. |
Year 11 Art:
Autumn Term | This term students will complete their natural forms mock exam project whilst planning and creating their artist inspired final pieces during the 10hr mock exam. |
Spring Term | This term students will be completing their externally set exam papers. The GCSE Art exam is scheduled to take place towards the end of the second half of this term and is worth 40% of the final mark. All effort and concentration will focus on preparation for this in lessons. |
Summer Term | Students’, have the opportunity to refine their coursework/portfolio ready for internal moderation by early May. |
Year 10 Photography
Autumn Term | During this term, students will develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Photography and how to work and think like a photographer. Through completing a project on portraiture, they will learn about: • How to create a mind map and use a mood board as an inspirational starting point. • Composition and structure. How/when/where to take a photograph. • How to use a digital camera and how to take a photograph using various lighting conditions. • Artist research and its influence and its importance. • Introduction to Adobe Photoshop as our ‘dark room’. • How to present, mount and display your work as a professional. |
Spring Term | During this term, students, will continue to develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Photography and how to work and think as photographer. They will continue to develop a unit of coursework in response to the theme of Portrait photography and be expected to edit using photoshop, experiment with different drawing materials and produce quality final pieces using knowledge gained from the Autumn term. The second half of this term students will look to refine and complete their portraits project ready to start their second coursework project in the summer term. |
Summer Term | During this term students will start to develop a unit of coursework in response to the theme ‘Landscapes’. This will be their second coursework project and their mock exam project. To support students with collecting images for their mock exam, all photography students will attend a trip to different locations on island linking to specific photographers. At this point of the course, students are expected to know how to collate, develop, modify and refine their work to a higher standard producing a portfolio of only their strongest work, which is 60% of their final grade. Students will be given Summer Holiday work to complete for the beginning of year 11 their mock exam. |
Year 11 Photography
Autumn Term | This term students will complete their Landscapes mock exam project whilst editing and experimenting with their photographer inspired final pieces during the 10hr mock exam. |
