Should the Island experience severe weather decisions made about schools being open or closed is made centrally by the Education Department. This document is a summary and reminder to all parents of the procedures of School closure due to severe weather:
Decision not to open Schools

The BBC will be informed and there is an agreement that they will carry a message on the broadcasts of Radio Jersey between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
- Channel Television will also carry newsflashes during broadcast hours
- Channel 103 will also carry newsflashes during broadcast hours

Closure when a school is in session
The decision to close during a severe weather, e.g. heavy snowfall, stormy conditions or when there is a forecast of deteriorating conditions, will be taken centrally by the Director of Education, not Headteachers, and an announcement will be made on the local media.
All students are expected to follow arrangements agreed at the start of the school year, as directed by parents;
- either to stay at school or leave school and get home, or
- travel by foot to an alternative venue as determined by you, as quickly and as safely as possible.
It is therefore necessary for your child to know exactly what your instructions should a forced school closure be called during the school day. All students that are expected to remain in school hall until they are picked up, or wait for school buses if they are operating.
If for any reason a parent(s) have changed their severe weather arrangements for their child, this must be communicated to the school main office via email admin@grainville.sch.je so that central records can be adjusted.
