Careers and post 16 progression
At Grainville School Careers is recognised as a really important part of every student’s education and development. Careers is taught as part of the PSHE curriculum at Key Stage 3 and at Key Stage 4 it becomes a stand alone subject.
YEAR 10
In Year 10 the students have started their option subjects and we start to develop where these options might take them. Students investigate what career routes are available to them in more detail and they also carry out the application, preparation and finally the actual two week Trident work placement.
This year we have also arranged to take Year 10 students on university taster trips so that students who are considering university after year 13 can get a feel of what university studies and life is like and if it is really a route that they would like to take.
Key dates will be shared with parents/carers via In Touch.
YEAR 11
Students have now carried out their work placement and are nearing the end of their examination studies so this is the time that we start to look towards post 16+ education courses and employment. This includes their 16+ application, CV writing and interview skills. All students are allocated a career guidance interview with a careers advisor from Skills Jersey to ensure that the path that they want to pursue is viable and achievable.
Below is a list of the 16+ establishments and agencies that students my choose to move onto or use after they have completed their GCSE’s at Grainville. Mr Wood will provide Year 11 students with the opportunity to visit these institutions and also will be inviting representatives from these into Grainville to give key information and provide all the facts to help the Year 11 students make an informed decision on what their steps may be.
Key dates will be shared with parents/carers via In Touch.
