Years at Grainville. 2011- 2016
Biggest challenge at school.
Finding the right balance between studying and socialising with friends. GCSE’s are very important towards the future, but having fun with your friends is also vital to maintain the work life balance.
Greatest achievement at school.
Achieving my best grade in a subject I found the most difficult. Worked very hard with the teacher’s assistant in the weeks leading up to the exam and it was worthwhile.
Favourite lesson/activity.
Prison Me No Way. The ambassadors who came to the school were very engaging and it was a fun way to get the students interacting and learning about prison life and police work.
Which aspects of Grainville helped you become the person you are today.
The teachers who treated you like a young adult and inspired you to do well through 1-2-1 conversations.
Favourite memory.
Going on the Rome trip with Ms Retrosi and my friends in Year 10. We saw and did so much and it was one of my first big trips off the island.
What path did you take and who inspired you along the way to get you to where you are today.
After the international baccalaureate I joined a Deloitte as part of their Bright start scheme. This is an opportunity to learn while you earn; I worked towards my accountancy qualification for 3 years whilst also in full time work; fully paid by the company. Once qualified the opportunities in the finance industry are endless with 3 years work experience under your belt, working as an assistant manager in a big 4 accountancy firm.
Favourite aspects of your job.
I get to work with a diverse range of people all the time; with new clients and teams, there are lots of opportunities for travel and get involved with social events around the office.
Advice to students looking at career options.
I highly recommend for student looking at career options, to look into opportunities which will build your real world skill set; such as higher education qualification/degree or going into an apprenticeship to learn a trade. This will build the foundations you need for a prosperous career.
