Grainville will be starting its new school timetable early this year, from 2nd July 2019. The academic year 2019-20 will be advanced for new Year 8-11 year groups on Tuesday 2nd July. This means that all new Year 8 – 11 students will have next year’s timetable and the majority of their teachers for three weeks prior to the summer holidays. The last day of term this summer is Friday 19th July.
Advancing the school year early will allow:
- Year 7 students – our new Year 8, a thorough three week transition programme from Horizon (Year 7 base).
- Students in Year 9 – our new Year 10 to begin their new GCSE/BTEC options prior to the summer break, allowing projects, research and reading to be completed over the long summer holidays.
- Provide teachers working within the Year 7 base (Horizon) essential time to meet, plan and prepare for our new and youngest students joining us from primary schools across the Island in September.
- Most important, with the exception of our new Year 7, it will allow all students in new Year 8 -11 a ‘September’ start but in July instead, gaining three valuable weeks experience of new timetables and courses before the end of term, making a return to school in September much more straight forward for students and staff.
New school year for current students begins Tuesday 2nd July 2019
