Autumn | During this term students will develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Art and how to work and think as an artist. Learning aim and context: • Mind Mapping and creating a Mood Board as an inspirational starting point on Junk Food. • Artist research and its influence and its importance. • Introduction to 3D junk food sculpture with acrylic. Introduction to plasterwork and the use of textiles and mixed media. The use of surface texture in Art. • Observation drawing as a tool and a starting point. • Lettering and the use of text in expressive Art. • Abstract and Conceptual Art in principle and practice. The main assessment task(s) will look at: • Develop a final piece that best communicates the understanding of the knowledge and techniques that have been studied 3D and 2D. |
Spring | During the first half of this term, students will continue to experiment, develop and refine the Junk food project in 3D and 2D formats. The second half of this term students will continue to develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Art and how to work and think as an artist. Students will be expected to develop a unit of coursework in response to natural forms by: • Using observation drawing and photography as a tool and a starting point. • Artist research and its influence and its importance. • Experimenting with mixed media art forms, using a variety of everyday materials to create detailed studies of natural forms. The main assessment task(s) will look at: • Develop a final piece that best communicates the understanding of the knowledge and techniques that have been studied 3D and 2D. |
Summer | During this term, students will continue to develop their natural forms project and a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Art and how to work and think as an artist. The main assessment task(s) will look at: Completion of the natural form project and preparation for the Y10 Mock exam. Summer term 2- Preparation for the Y11 Portfolio. Students, are expected to collate, develop, modify and refine work to a higher standard producing a portfolio of only their strongest work, which is 60% of their final level. Students will be given Summer Holiday work to complete for the beginning of year 11 |

Autumn Term | Introduction to child development. Learning throughout this term will include: • Preparing for a newborn baby. • Roles and responsibilities of parents • Factors to consider when planning to have children Students will also be doing learning that supports them in completing their first 2 pieces of R019 coursework. This includes: Coursework 1: Essential items needed for children aged 0-1 (feeding, sleeping, clothing, travel) Coursework 2: Essential items needed for children ages 1-5 (feeding, sleeping, clothing, travel) Coursework 1 and 2 started in the Autumn term will due by the February half term. |
Spring Term | Students will be doing learning that supports them in preparation for their R018 exam. This includes: • The structure and function of the male and female reproductive system • How reproduction takes place (sex education) • To recognise and evaluate methods of contraception • The signs and symptoms of pregnancy • The importance of antenatal and parenting classes • Routine checks carried out at antenatal clinics • The choices available for delivery • The difference between home and hospital births • The stages of labour, methods of delivery and pain relief Students will complete a mock exam which tests them on this learning and prepares them for the real exam in Y11. |
Summer Term | Learning throughout this term will include: • Nutritional requirements for children ages 0-5 • Nutritional needs and how to keep healthy before and during pregnancy • Pre-conception health • Stages of weaning • Understanding reasons why women breast/bottle/combination feed Students will be doing learning that supports them in completing their second 2 pieces of R019 coursework. This includes: Coursework 3: Government guidelines to healthy eating Coursework 4: Breastfeeding vs. Bottle-feeding Coursework 3 and 4 started in the Summer term will due by end of Year 10. Intervention will be put in place for any students who have missed the deadline. |

Spring Term | Devising | In groups, students respond to stimulus to create their own performance to a live audience. Students participate in a series of devising workshops where they explore and develop performance styles, skills and techniques. |
Summer Term | Monologues | Each student studies an extract from a play which includes a monologue. As a class we look at exploring each character and each play text through a series of workshops. Each students performs to camera a three minute monologue which has been researched, staged and rehearsed. |

Spring | During this term, students, will continue to develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Photography and how to work and think as photographer. Students will be expected to develop a unit of coursework in response to texture, shape and pattern in photography. Students will then be expected to edit, experiment with materials and a produce quality final pieces using knowledge gained from the Autumn term. |
Summer | During this term students will continue to develop a thorough understanding of the assessment criteria used in GCSE Photography and how to work and think as a photographer. Students, will be expected to develop a unit of coursework in response to landscapes in photography. They are given a minimum of 7 weeks to develop a power-point in response to a GCSE exam question. Students, will then be expected to edit, experiment with materials and a produce a final piece during a 9 hour timed period. • Preparation for the Y11 Portfolio. Students, are expected to collate, develop, modify and refine work to a higher standard producing a portfolio of only their strongest work, which is 60% of their final level. • Students, will be given Summer Holiday work to complete for the beginning of year 11. |
