We caught up with Bradley to try and get an insight into what motivates him and what his ambitions are.
WHEN AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO YOUR SPORT? Each year, at Primary school, there is a cross country competition. My teacher encouraged me to take part and we went to Queens Valley each week to train. I started in Year 6 and realised I was actually quite good!
WHERE DO YOU DO YOUR TRAINING AND EVENTS? I train 3 x a week at FB Fields for Athletics and I swim 3 x a week to help build strength and stamina. I compete at all of the local competitions on the track and for cross country. When I can, I also compete in the UK. My main coach is Chris Dorey who helps me with Endurance training and Antony Brown works with me on plyometrics.
WHO/WHAT TEAM DO YOU REPRESENT? I have represented Jersey at the Hampshire championships in both Athletics and Cross Country. I performed well at both of these competitions and was chosen to represent Hampshire County.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? I have recently been selected by UK Athletics to represent South East England at the London Mini Marathon. Last season I was the only male to represent the Channel Islands at the English Schools Cross Country competition. This was a huge deal! I am also the school record holder for the 800m,1500m, Park Run and the annual school walk.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST PART OF YOUR SPORT? The best part is when the training comes together and I perform beyond expectation Its not always about getting a medal but getting a PB or running the race in a strategic way and feeling like I did 100%. The worse part is definitely finding the motivation to train when I am not running very well or coming back from an injury.
WHAT ARE YOUR AIMS AND TARGETS FOR THE FUTURE IN SPORT? Short term, I want to finish in the top ten at the Hampshire league Cross Country events that I will be taking part in this winter. Longer term I would love a place in the Island Games team and Junior Commonwealth, I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to make the Olympics!
WHO ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS? This changes regularly. Currently my inspiration is Ben Parkes, he is a great runner but unknown to many people. He runs
