Grainville has been judged the best in Britain and commended as the school that has gone the furthest to protect its staff, pupils and visitors as well as spreading first aid knowledge throughout the school.
In the presence of Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex, John McGuinness, Headteacher, proudly accepted the prestigious award at the inaugural St John Ambulance Awards evening in London on 30th November. He said ‘when you consider there are over 27,800 schools in the UK, to be shortlisted in the final six schools was in itself a fantastic achievement, but to go on and win this award is simply amazing for Grainville and for Jersey. It reflects our community spirit and caring and supportive school ethos. It was an absolute honour and a privilege to accept the award on behalf of all our young first aiders and staff.
A special note of praise and acknowledgement must go to Miss Bouchard for inspiring so many young people to become so aware of the importance of first aid and train our young first aiders so well, and to Mrs Mallet, school medical officer for being – simply the best’. Our students are always made to feel safe when seeking or needing treatment.
Finally, our most sincere thanks and gratitude to all the volunteers at St. John Ambulance for their continued service. Their training programme and support for young people is first class.
In 2011 therefore our small community minded school has become the National School Champions in First Aid competing against the best schools in the UK in May and now the first ever recipients of the National Community Award - Schools . What a fantastic achievement. ‘Best in Britain’.
