Year 9 | Subject: Geography |
| Autumn | Unit 11: Coastal Environments During this term students will study the processes and landforms created by coastal erosion, transport and deposition. They will explore the impact that these processes have on people living in coastal areas and some of the strategies used to manage vulnerable areas. The main assessment task will look at the features of the Dorset Coast. Unit 12: Earthquakes During this unit students will study the causes, effects of Earthquakes. They will also study how people respond to these events and also try to prevent loss of human life. This will include the formation of Tsunami. The main assessment will be based around the impacts of earthquakes in countries of differing levels of economic development. |
| Spring | Unit 13: The Geography of France During this term students will study our nearest neighbour, France. We will explore many aspects of the human and physical geography, as well as looking at their approach to energy needs that we also rely on. The main assessment task will look at why France depends on nuclear power and the associated issues. |
| Summer | Unit 14: Where in the world and climate change? During this term students will study some of the global patterns related to human and physical geography, as well as brushing up on some more basic geographical knowledge of where places are. They will also look at the issue of climate change. The main assessment task will be a personalised project based on an aspect of climate change. Following the May half term, Year 9 students will have the opportunity to start the GCSE course in the Humanities subject of their choice. |
*Note: There is some flexibility between units depending on whether classes have one to two lessons per week on the rotation.
