| Autumn | During this term students will study a novel and Shakespeare. In the Novel unit, they will develop the skill of recognising how the author conveys meaning. In the Shakespeare unit, they will learn to consider stagecraft, and how it relates to meaning. The main assessment task (s) for the Novel unit will be an essay using PBD, to show their understanding. For the Shakespeare unit, the main assessment task will be a group presentation about staging the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. |
| Spring | During this term students will study Non-Fiction and Poetry. In the Non-Fiction unit, they will learn about how social issues are addressed by the music industry. In the Poetry unit, they will study ‘The Beggar Woman’ and develop the skill of analysing a poem for meaning, specifically focusing on how language is used. The main assessment task(s) for the Non-Fiction unit will be to plan, write and design a magazine article aimed at teenagers, in which they discuss how and why the music industry addresses so many social issues. For the Poetry unit, the main assessment task will be to write a GCSE style response to a question about how the poets language is used for effect. |
| Summer | During this term students will study Monologues and then they will write the first piece of GCSE coursework. In the Monologue unit, they will study monologues and consider the challenges of writing and performing one. In the final half term of this academic year, they will plan and write their ‘Original Writing’ piece for their coursework folder. The main assessment task(s) for the Monologue unit will be to write and write and deliver their own monologue. For the Original Writing, the main assessment task will be to plan and write a piece of prose that is completely original. |
