Year 9

Subject: Drama

 Autumn

Unit 1: Physical theatre
In this unit pupils will use many non-naturalistic techniques including, ‘people as objects,’ ‘line stories’ and ‘pop-up books.’ Pupils will be asked to consider how these techniques can be used and developed in their original work.

Unit 2: Medieval Theatre
Pupils will learn about medieval mystery plays and how theatre has been integrated in the community often through religion. Pupils will use storytelling and narration to attract the attention of an audience.

 Spring

Unit 3: Technical theatre and semiotics
Pupils will use technical elements, such as sound, costume, lighting and set to create signs for the audience.

Unit 4: Duologues
Pupils will have to develop an in-depth character with clear objectives whilst they understand the relationship between two characters on stage together.

 Summer

Unit 5: Dance-Drama – Sport
Using the stimulus of the ‘Olympic Games opening’ the pupils will use movement work to create and perform an ensemble piece of dance-drama.

Unit 6: Synoptic unit: TIE Hillsborough disaster
Using all the skills they have learnt this year pupils will use the theme of the Hillsborough disaster to create a piece with the purpose to inform and teach the audience. This will be assessed and give the pupils their end of year levels for Making, Performing and Responding.
