Design Technology

Year 9

Subject: Design Technology
All students study Food, Textiles and Technology on a rotation. Spending approximately 9 weeks in Food, and Textiles and 16 weeks in Technology.
Focused learning areas are generating ideas, development of ideas, communication, planning, manufacture and evaluation.

 Textiles

This year students have more of a free choice about what they make and items include bags, simple tops, pyjama bottoms, soft toys, wallets, slippers, wall hangings, embroidered boxes.
The work will involve the use of commercial patterns or pattern designing and both hand and machine construction skills. Students are encouraged to experiment and be creative with a variety of dyes, materials and threads.

 Food

This year students continue to health eating they also study food hygiene and food safety, they look at how to adapt recipes and carry out of project of foods from different cultures.
They may make Victoria Sandwich cake, Banana bread, spaghetti bolognaise, eves pudding.

 Technology

This year students carry out a mobile phone project. Students generate an idea for a mobile phone through research from a target audience; they develop a final idea for a phone. Student draw out their final design using 2D Design on the computer and producing a presentation drawing using black and white pencils. They then construct a point of sale display and using pro desk top carry out 3-dimensional computer modelling.
