| Autumn | During this first half term students will study a Novel or Media. In the Novel unit they will read either ‘Holes’, ‘Stone Cold’ or ‘The Other Side Of The Truth’. Students will develop the skill of discussion and reading for meaning. The main assessment task for the Novel unit will be a reflective essay using PBD, to show their understanding. For the Media unit students will learn about media manipulation, and will develop the skill of writing for a purpose. For the Media, the main assessment task will be to write a newspaper article in a style that is typical of a tabloid or broadsheet newspaper. During the second half of this term students will study Pre-20th Century Fiction or The Power of Language. In the Pre-20th Century Fiction unit, they will learn about genre of Detective Writing. The main assessment task will be to write their own detective story using key features of the genre. In The Power of Language unit, they will learn about speech writing. The main assessment task for the Power of Language will be to write and deliver their own persuasive speech. |
