| Autumn | Unit 1: Baseline assessment The first task in drama is for pupils to use stimulus to create their own performance, pupils will be assessed in making, performing and responding, allowing both the teacher and pupils to be aware of what level they are starting at. Unit 2: Basic skills Using the baseline information pupils will learn basic skills, including: freeze frame, mime, split screen and improvisation, whilst always developing their physical and vocal skills. Pupils will then use their skills to create their own miniature pantomime. |
| Spring | Unit 3: Greek Theatre Pupils will learn about theatre’s beginnings whist looking at the ‘Myth of Arachne and Athene.’ They will perform ‘in the round’ and use appropriate performance skills. Unit 4: Puppetry Pupils will use, design, make and perform with their own puppets. Looking at Marionettes, rod puppets, shadow puppets and hand puppets. |
| Summer | Unit 5: Scripts intro During this unit students will begin to experiment with written text. They will use basic scripts to infer their own context and then write and perform basic scripts of their own, including the use of stage directions. Unit 6: Synoptic unit: Titanic Using all the skills they have learnt this year pupils will use characters from on board the Titanic devise a piece about status. This will be assessed and give the pupils their end of year levels for Making, Performing and Responding. |
