Year 11 | Subject: GCSE Geography (Current Year 11 2009-2010) |
| Autumn | Coursework During the first half of this term students will be working on their Coursework. How and why do St Brelade’s Bay and (a Bay of your choice,) show similarities and differences from each other? To what extend to they meet the needs of locals and tourists? Submission date is Thursday 22nd October 2009 Unit 2- People and place to live During the second half of this term Students will study Settlements, rural to urban migration in LEDC countries. They will also study Quarrying, following the trip to Ronez quarry last term. |
| Spring | Unit 1 – People and the Physical World During this unit students will study Rivers. This will include fluvial processes and landforms of erosion and deposition. They will also study two case studies of river flooding, one in an MEDC and one in a LEDC. Unit 3 – People and their needs During this unit students will study Agriculture and Energy Unit 4 – People and the Environment During this unit students will study tropical rainforests, National Parks and their conflicts, Water pollution following an oil spill, Acid rain and global warming. The main assessment task will be their mock examinations |

Year 11 | Subject: GCSE Geography (2010-2011) |
| Autumn | Unit 3: Issues in our fast changing world During this unit students will develop and apply knowledge and understanding to current issues of global importance. This includes population change, natural hazards, global climate change, trade aid and superpowers and the challenge of planning. The main assessment tasks will look at a variety of skills such as photograph analysis and interpretation, map skills, field sketches, analysis of written articles, decision making and formulating and justifying arguments both for and against issues discussed. This is in preparation for the external examination. |
| Spring | Unit 4: Similarities and Differences During this term students will study this unit based around a comparison study of Jersey and another non UK city or region. Students will explore ideas such as: Where is it located? How is it represented, seen and experienced by others? What are the major issues affecting it? How has it been influenced by its links with other places? What issues arise from these? What changes might take place in the future? The main assessment task will be their mock examinations |
| Summer | During this term students will undertake revision and preparation of pre release materials for the final examination of the two units studied this year. |
