Subject: BTEC Business Studies

During this term students will study Unit 3: investigating Financial Control including learning about cost, revenue and profit, break-even analysis, cash flow forecasts, recording financial transactions and financial fraud.

The main assessment tasks are all based around a case study of a restaurant in St.Helier ‘The Beach Bistro’. Students will complete a PowerPoint presentation and spreadsheets about costs, revenue and profit, a break-even analysis, a cash flow forecast, document about recording financial transactions and a poster on financial fraud (all Pass work- C grade). This term students will also have the opportunity to extend their work and complete Merit (B) and Distinction (A) grade coursework in the form of three reports; the impact of changing costs and revenue on break-even analysis, an analysis of a cash flow forecast and overall investigation about finance at The Beach Bistro.

During this term students will study Unit 2: Developing Customer Relations learning about how customer service is provided, interpersonal and communication skills, the importance of consistency and reliability of customer service and how to monitor and evaluate customer service.

The main assessment tasks for Pass work (C grade) work are based around The Royal Yacht hotel. Students will complete a PowerPoint presentation about delivering customer service, a script, poster and letter for employees to follow, an employee leaflet about the consistency and reliability of customer service and an account and survey about monitoring and evaluating customer service. This term students will also have the opportunity to extend their work and complete Merit (B) and Distinction (A) grade coursework. This will consist on a verbal assessment on delivering good customer service, a newspaper article about good customer service and report about monitoring and evaluating customer service at a bank and an investigation about customer service in two business organisations.

During this term students will have an opportunity to improve and extend their coursework to improve their overall grade.
