| Autumn | Unit 1: Extreme Environments During this term students will study Desert environments and polar regions. In each area they will consider how the areas are defined, what we know about them and how people react to them, Where they are located, their physical characteristics, how people use them and the challenges they pose. The main assessment task will be a variety or tasks related to examination practice. |
| Spring | Unit 2: you as a global citizen – the impact of our decisions. During this term students will study this unit that is based around two controlled assessment tasks. These tasks are published by the examination board and are based the two board headings below. a) Investigate how consumer decisions may have a positive or negative impact on people. This will be based around secondary data and will be approximately 1000 words in length. b) Investigate a local retail area. This will be based around primary data collection (fieldwork) and will be approximately 1000 words in length. The main assessment is under controlled conditions monitored by the teacher. |
| Summer | Examination – Unit 1 During this term students will be revising for their first examination – Unit 1 Extreme Environments. The examination date will be published later in the year, but is expected to be late may or early June. This is a final examination for this unit. After examinations students will start Unit 3 Unit 3: Issues in our fast changing world During this unit students will develop and apply knowledge and understanding to current issues of global importance. This includes population change, natural hazards, global climate change, trade aid and superpowers and the challenge of planning. |
