Year 10 | Subject: BTEC Business Studies |
| Autumn | During this term students start with a group challenge based on choosing business organisations for a new village. They will then begin to study Unit 1: Exploring Business Purposes. They will study theory on; the purposes of business organisations, size and scale and the different types of business ownership including sole trader, partnership, limited companies, franchises, co-operatives, public sector and charities. The main assessment tasks will be for students to complete a table of the different types of ownership and a PowerPoint presentation that investigates four differing business organisations. |
| Spring | During this term students will look at the second and third areas of Unit 1. They will study business classifications; primary, secondary and tertiary and functional areas of a business organisation. |
| Summer | During this term students will study the final area of theory for Unit 1 about business organisation’s aims and objectives. This term students will also have the opportunity to extend their work and complete Merit (B) and Distinction (A) grade coursework. The main assessment task will be for students to complete a PowerPoint presentation about business organisation aims and objectives. The extension work includes a business organisation comparison table (Merit), a newspaper article about growth and decline of business classifications (Merit), a report about how functional areas interact (Merit) and a report about how functional areas contribute to a business aims and objectives (Distinction). |
