John McGuinness is currently on his second headship having joined Grainville School in 2009. His first ever teaching post was in Inner London in 1985. Since then he has held a number of influential roles in education including Head of Science, Environmental Adviser and Assistant Headteacher (West Sussex), Science Adviser (Portsmouth City) and was Headteacher in an 11-18 School (Dorset) prior to joining Grainville. In 2003 he was fast-tracked for the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). He is a national presenter for NfER, GL - Assessment promoting the use of CAT data to set targets and raise standards in schools. John is not new to Jersey having been Deputy Headteacher at Le Rocquier School for 4 years, helping to bring about significant school improvement from 2003-07 and establish the highly successful Jersey Environment Week. He is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people and has a successful history of proven school improvement. Married with 3 sons John juggles the demands of school with family life and enjoys painting, surfing and all things environmental.
